Leadership is influence
We are all called to be leaders, as we are all called to influence our world for Christ. We are all called to be salt and light (Matt. 5:13-16). We are all called to participate in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20). It is the church’s responsibility to “equip the saints for ministry” (Eph. 4:11-13). Thus, we understand that our biblical responsibility, as a church, is to “develop Christian leaders who will impact the world for Christ.”
Not all leaders are “up-front” people. Many great people of influence, who make a tremendous impact on the world for Christ, work behind the scenes. One great example of this would be the intercessor, who might pray hours a day, and whose prayers make a huge impact on peoples’ lives and on the Kingdom of God, but who does all this ministry alone in their prayer closet.
We don’t believe that anyone is exempt from this call to leadership. We are all members of one body (cf. Rom. 12; 1 Cor. 12), and every part of the body is “indispensable” (1 Cor. 12:22). In order to function at its best—in order for our church and our homes to “thrive”—every member must find their calling, be equipped for that ministry, and be engaged in their leadership role.
