Supporting Statements
- The intersection of “faith and love” is described by Paul in Galatians 5:6b: “… the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Faith without love is worthless (cf. 1 Cor. 13:1-3); it leads to hypocrisy and legalism. Love without faith is empty philanthropy. Our faith is in God, who is, Himself, the essence of love. Our love is supernaturally empowered by our faith in God, who dwells in us by His Holy Spirit. Where this powerful faith intersects with this powerful love, there can be a dynamic reaction that can truly transform lives.
- Leadership is, by definition, “influence.” In that sense, we are all called to be leaders, as we are all called to influence our world for Christ. We are all called to be salt and light (Matt. 5:13-16). We are all called to participate in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20). It is the church’s responsibility to “equip the saints for ministry” (Eph. 4:11-13). Thus, we understand that our biblical responsibility, as a church, is to “develop Christian leaders who will impact the world for Christ.”
- Not all leaders are “up-front” people. Many great people of influence, who make a tremendous impact on the world for Christ, work behind the scenes. One great example of this would be the intercessor, who might pray hours a day, and whose prayers make a huge impact on peoples’ lives and on the Kingdom of God, but who does all this ministry alone in their prayer closet.
- We don’t believe that anyone is exempt from this call to leadership. We are all members of one body (cf. Rom. 12; 1 Cor. 12), and every part of the body is “indispensible” (1 Cor. 12:22). In order to function at its best—in order for our church and our homes to “thrive”—every member must find their calling, be equipped for that ministry, and be engaged in their leadership role.
- The Kingdom of God: The “place” where God reigns sovereign, where His will is done, His Spirit dwells, and His power is made manifest; the people in that place thrive and flourish under the care of their Heavenly King and their Good Shepherd.
